In 1992, Mall of America opened its doors to the public on the very same land which Metropolitan Stadium once stood. Upon the demolition of this widespread attraction in 1985, the city of Bloomington selected a development team consisting of Triple Five Group, Melvin Simon and Associates, and Teachers Insurance and Annuity to repurpose this land by proposing a retail/entertainment development. This vision, which became the Mall of America has risen to new heights becoming the most frequented destination in the United States for over 42 million people per year.

In an effort to preserve this notable status, Triple Five Group decided to reinvigorate the existing mall through an expansion to reinforce the center’s strong brand awareness and status as a global tourist destination. The Expansion includes included a 300,000-SF retail expansion, 342-room JW Marriott hotel, Class A-office building, and an indoor water park.
